What do I evaluate during an assessment?

Crown structure and balance — co-dominant stems and poorly attached branches that could split under load. Root zone health — compacted soil, stressed surface roots, and evidence of rot near the base. Branch attachment quality — weak unions or included bark that fail under wind or ice stress. Species biology — different trees have different structural tendencies, and knowing the species is part of reading the tree correctly.
